Color Concrete
HOW WE APPLY COLOR TO CONCRETE: The usual and most popular way is that we pour concrete, smooth it out, then apply color evenly all over the surface of the concrete. With special tools, the color will be mixed with the concrete throughout the surface. This powder is called COLOR HARDENER. This procedure is used to do a job with one solid color only. To make a two-tone color job, the same procedure will be used, and another powder called RELEASE POWDER will be added. Not all colors available have a release powder to make a two-tone color job and not all patterns can be used to make a two-tone color job. To see the colors that have release powder available, refer to the chart on this page. To see the colors that have release powder available, refer to the chart on this page. The patterns available will have a symbol. (T-T).
HOW TO PICK COLORS FROM THE COLOR CHART: There will be a symbol underneath all colors (*+).
* represents the color pigmented sealer
+ represents the color of release powder
. represents color of concrete hardener
RECOMMENDED: Use a darker color hardener and lighter release powder to make a nice contrast, or visa-versa. For example, terra cotta and charcoal make an antique look. More information about this will be given by the salesperson.
Another way to apply color is using INTEGRAL COLOR. This is not recommended, because it doubles the price of the whole project (not necessary). The final result will be exactly the same. This method is only used when the job requires it.
After the concrete has been poured and stamped, it must be cut every 12 to 15 feet across, to divide concrete into smaller approximately equal sections. This needs to be done within a period of 72 hours. These cuts prevent future cracks. At this time we will also pressure wash the whole surface and areas next to the driveway: walls, sidewalk, street, etc. For the best results it is recommended that sealer be applied 14 days after the day concrete is poured. After sealer is applied, you will be able to see the true color of your job.
For one solid color jobs, a sealer with a pigment will give the final color to the concrete. For two-toned jobs, a clearer sealer will show the two colors applied on the concrete.
After applying sealer, we are done with our part of the work. At this time, the customer will be responsible for providing landscaping, and filling of edges next to the new concrete. Once this is done, contact our office and arrange for a final inspection to be done. After this you can begin enjoying your new driveway or patio!
